Princess Leia Makes an Appearance on the HoloLens

Holographic display projected above a hand.

While Magic Leap and ILMxLABs blew the internet's collective mind with a mixed reality Star Wars game demo last week, it'll likely be awhile before we see either the game or the hardware that'll run it. In the meantime, you can get one of the most famous Star Wars holographic messages on the HoloLens: Princess Leia's message to Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Just in case you're not familiar, you can see the original version from Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope projected through R2-D2 in the clip below.

Now, here it is recreated in my living room via the Leia Message app on the Microsoft Store.

That's a far cry from what Magic Leap has planned, but is also something that was just thrown together quickly in Unity last March. Whether or not we'll see Star Wars games on the HoloLens remains to be seen, but it's certainly not impossible.
